In spring, the slopes surrounding the village are covered with narcissi. Higher up, the wind carries the fragrance of wild thyme and oregano. After the rain, the scents of sage and myrtle can be detected among the ancient stones. It is no coincidence that generations of villagers came here in search of medicines long before the Hospitallers arrived in the village. The Hospitallers themselves learned the secrets of healing from the local people. Ancient legends say that, long ago, the dryads of Akamas argued over what gift they should leave to humankind. One gave flowers their beauty. Another gave them healing powers. The third taught people how to preserve their fragrance throughout the long winter evenings. That is how the first magical healing shop of Arodes appeared. The mountains became its shelves, the starry sky became its ceiling and the people of the village became its keepers. Nothing has changed since then. Narcissi continue to blossom every spring, herbs fill the air with their fragrances, and Akamas generously share its gifts. Perhaps this is how magic truly lives: by becoming part of everyday life.
