They say that several years ago, a volunteer named Alex arrived in Pano Arodes. During his life, he had witnessed earthquakes, floods and wars. He always said: “I have seen too much suffering not to believe in goodness. Every time disaster struck, someone appeared who was willing to help.” After hearing these words, people from different countries who had gathered at the village’s Volunteering Centre began to wonder: How could they encourage travellers to stop and remember the importance of kindness? Then someone painted a pair of enormous wings. “Angel wings?” “No, human wings. They are the hands with which we help, the heart that does not allow us to walk past someone in need, and the time that one person gives to another.” That is how the Wings of Arodes appeared.
