The spring and pool were constructed here in 1920, and the place has survived in this form to the present day. At night, white silhouettes of young women can sometimes be seen in the mist above the water. Perhaps they are only products of the imagination, but some people call them the nymphs of the spring. One local woman remembered a legend that had been told to her before bedtime when she was a child. During the age of the Crusaders, a former Templar was exiled to the village. He escaped the flames, but he was forced to exchange his white cloak for the black cloak of a Hospitaller. By day, the knight managed a vineyard. In the evenings, he visited the spring, where he met the Lady in White. Something grew between them that tore his heart between duty and truth. One night, Ottoman pirates appeared on the shore. The villagers rushed to save themselves. “I can hide you in my waters,” said the Lady. “Hide them instead,” replied the knight, pointing towards the villagers. “My strength is not enough to protect them all.” Then he whispered something to her and walked out to face the attackers. They say that the spring overflowed that night and that a thick mist covered the village. When the mist finally cleared, the bodies of the pirates lay upon the ground, but the knight himself was never found. The mist had taken his body… The village elders said that the water washed his black cloak until it became white once again. Since that night, the nymph of the spring has returned with her sisters to honour the memory of her beloved. Do not disturb her. Instead, place a flower beside the pool and remember the heroes who gave their lives so that others might live.
